Sustainability

Interserve is committed to providing a sustainable business for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders and has invested heavily to ensure the sustainability of our support and services are an example of industry best practice.

Sustainability touches every aspect of the design, construction and operation processes. In caring for the environment, it is also our objective that our buildings do not cost more than traditionally-built structures over their lifetime and clearly demonstrate better lifecycle costs and value in both capital and operating terms.

Our Sustainability Framework - RENEWABLES
Interserve has developed RENEWABLES as a framework for managing our 10 sustainable elements, which are aligned to the Government’s guiding principles and shared UK priorities. This is helping us to manage our environmental, social and economic responsibilities and bring added value to our clients.

Sustainability in Practice

  • At HMP Garth, we reduced mains water demand through reductions, which are currently forecast to be circa 1500 cu m per year recovered and re-used. This equates to 1,500,000 litres of water and is based on average rainfall. Also enhanced water management by facilitating sound monitoring through water meters included with the system to measure rainwater usage.
  • At the Home Office’s restaurant facility at Vulcan House, we introduced a series of initiatives including; Fair Trade food and drink; 100% compostable cutlery made from vegetable starch; and 100% recyclable paper goods and plastic pots.
