Interserve supports the communities in which we are involved not just by undertaking our work responsibly but also by engaging in matters of local interest. We are providing educational buildings that are at the heart of the local communities and play a major part in their regeneration. Not only do we support local employment through using local supply chain partners but we also raise living standards and employability through providing training and long-term employment opportunities. Through Extended Schools many of our projects further enhance the role of education buildings being at the heart of the community.
Vocational Training
Interserve is committed to collaborating with education providers and promoting vocational training. Offering training opportunities to young people plays a big part in raising their employment and living standards.
Pioneering BTEC
Our work with schools and colleges helps promote the role of construction to 14-16 year olds and facilitates recruitment into our business.
We are currently supporting a pioneering project in partnership with Exeter College by sponsorship a two-year BTEC First Diploma course in Construction and by providing; transport for the students from their schools to the college; advice and mentoring; and course materials.
Interserve was recognised by an Investors in Work Related and Enterprise Learning (IiRWEL) award for our “outstanding and innovative contribution” as an Outstanding Business Partner. We also won an award for helping Clyst Vale Community College achieve their IiRWEL Diploma.
14-19 Diplomas
We work in partnership with a number of Education Business Partnerships across the UK to develop and support new Diplomas for schools. For a recent Building Schools for the Future programme we committed to an ‘Education and Training Plan’ that includes; teacher industry update workshops; student work-based learning placements and work shadowing; partner staff for mentoring and curriculum talks; support for assessment of assignments; provision of real life case studies, technical drawings etc.; construction taster sessions.
Curriculum Enhancement
New or refurbished school buildings offer significant opportunities for curriculum enrichment. This could include tracking the development of the construction programme through site visits and themed assemblies or monitoring the carbon footprint of a building through analysis of energy usage and performance against recycling targets.
Professional Mentors
Interserve has professional and mentoring relationships with an array of local educational institutions, such as Advisory Board Panel members; external examiners at Nottingham Trent University; visiting lecturers; and members of construction training groups.
Industrial Placements and Sponsorships
Working closely with higher education providers across the country, we offer industrial placements and sponsor students through degree courses. We specifically target young people who do not wish to pursue a solely academic career path and are looking for sponsorship opportunities to gain practical experience whilst training.
We also provide scholarships under the Institution of Civil Engineers’ QUEST scheme, participate in the Construction Industry Training Board’s Inspire Scholarships and sponsor the University of Birmingham’s RESPECT scheme for civil engineering undergraduates.
